Welcome to the scenic Hudson Valley region we call home. Conveniently located west of the Hudson River and northwest of New York City, the region is rich in history, activities and beauty. A popular destination for visitors from nearby New York City and New Jersey, guests and residents alike enjoy all our area has to offer.
Bus and train service are readily available. The Metro North Railroad provides service to and from New York City and New Jersey, and the Short Line Bus provides alternative, convenient transportation. Stewart International Airport located just outside of Newburg, NY provides regional and domestic air service, and the three major New York/New Jersey metro area airports are a short drive.
Known for its natural beauty, the Hudson Valley has the famous Appalachian Trail running through it, and contains the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge, Harriman and Bear Mountain State Parks, the Hudson Highlands, and the Wallkill River. Schunemunk Mountain, a popular place for hikers and climbers, is the highest point at 1,664 above sea level. The lowest is sea level along the Hudson River.
Harriman State Park, located only 30 miles north of New York City, is a haven for hikers with over 200 miles of trails. At over 46000 acres, it remains one of the largest state parks in New York. The park is also known for its 32 lakes, streams, public camping areas and great vistas. In addition to hiking, the park also features horse trails, a mountain bike trail and great cross country skiing. Nearby Bear Mountain State Park has a trailside zoo, large swimming pool and a huge carousel for kids of all ages.
The Hudson Valley enjoys four distinct weather seasons, each one offering its own beauty and activities. The autumn, spectacular with fall foliage, brings apple picking, hay rides, the New York Renaissance Faire in Sterling Forest and the popular Warwick Applefest. Winter is a great time to get some holiday shopping done at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, visit any of our art galleries, or take a tour of America’s oldest winery, Brotherhood Winery, in Washingtonville. Great fun can be had at Tuxedo Ridge or Mount Peter Ski areas. There are many fairs and craft shows throughout the year.
A visit to The United States Military Academy at West Point is breathtaking with is historical architecture and panoramic views of the Hudson River. Eisenhower Hall Theater, located on the academy grounds, hosts professional entertainment through out the year. Take a Hudson River cruise from the nearby Newburg waterfront. The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen is an interesting stop in the charming village of Goshen, which is also the county seat. Stop and see the popular custom motorcycle shop made famous on The Learning Channel’s series, “American Chopper.”
Antiquing is abundant in the area, with Hudson and Beacon, among other towns, rich with treasures waiting to be found.
Fine and country dining are available. Many top chefs reside and work in the Hudson Valley, and you will find everything from Japanese, Italian, American, French, authentic Greek, to favorite local haunts with freshly made take home fare. Many restaurants have extensive wine cellars.
